Unconditional Love: The meaning of which is as the word describes, "To love with no conditions."
A classic example of this kind of love is with a Dog. You can starve it, you can beat it, push it away over and over, neglect it and it will still love you having no memory of past abuse. A dog will upon seeing you love you unconditionally never sulking over the past, but be happy to see you and love you no matter WHAT in that moment!
A parent to child unconditional love: Children Can break your best china, drag dirt all over your new carpet, disregard things you tell them and even tell you they hate you, yet you still love them unconditionally, no matter what they do your love for them stands strong.
Adult relationship unconditional love: In all honesty I don't think you will find many "Adult Relationships" that have unconditional love. It's very rare, because that means no conditions and there are always conditions to be found in adult relationships. It also means you must take a risk to be open and vulnerable to which many are not willing to be.
However having said that, it doesn't mean than when you give or attempt to give unconditional love that you will not be hurt in your attempt altering how we precieve others in the future. Looking back on the dog, he could be hurt by all his master does, but he keeps on giving love under all conditions. It doesn't mean that he won't stat biting back when he is beat, or that he will not dig a hole under the fence to find someone to give him love when neglected for so long. It means momentary he is able to forget about the past and show love under all the above conditions.
We humans are like that to some extent, we love despite our hurt the other my have inflicted on us, but inside we can still find love for the offender, and it doesn't mean that it doesn't alter us in our attempts to forgive and forget and to forge on with our love.
Then through it all one has to ask; Do we really want to give unconditional love? Because in doing so you must possible endure things only dogs should endure and perhaps stoop to the level of being an animal because it only serves to benefit the other not yourself.
Is it worth it?
