It would be wrong to set a "maximum" age limit for
drivers. It is another form of age discrimination.

Each person ages differently. Some 50 year olds look
and behave older than healthy 80 year olds.

I know a 90 year old woman who still drives 1/2 hour
to work in her Clinic where she has been a practicing
Chiropractor for 60 years. She is sharp as a tack.
Her hands still bring relief to a lot of suffering
people.

There "should be" a review testing of peoples driving skills
after a certain age. There already are eye exams to find
drivers whose vision is too impaired to drive. Many states
already have in place review testing after a certain age.
Some states start vision screening review by an optometrist
as early as 50. Several states require road testing for 65
year olds before renewing their license, other states at 70
to 75. A few states have no reviewing of any age drivers
except the eye exam.

We all know of some elderly persons that should not be driving.
The family and friends do need to step in and help them in
finding other means to get around to take care of their daily
lives.

The majority of seniors on the road are probably a lot safer
and more experienced drivers than Junior who just got his license
and can't wait to tear up the road. You can't lump all seniors
into a group and say "at this certain age you can not drive".

Give them some respect. The senior population has a lot to offer
our world. Where would all the hospitals, libraries and other
institutions who rely so heavily on senior volunteers be if we
were to set a mandatory age limit on senior drivers.

The same people who say that seniors should have an age limit
to their driving will feel differently when in a few years
some agency says "no" to their driving when they are deemed
"too old".
