10. It's all going to HD and you can't afford HDTV.
9. You have to pay for cable just to get network channels.
8. The Disney Channel is just antiauthoritarianism disguised as children's programing.
7. Reality shows. Come on! How many times in real life are you going to be stranded on a tropical island with a bunch of half naked women? Is this really what you want your kids to think real life is going to be like?
6. Your kids need to be able to actually read to survive in this world. Without television, the next best entertainment is a book.
5. MTV and all of the other music networks are taking over the world. Don't you hear enough bad singing when the television is off?

There are a lot of arguments that television can be used as an educational tool. This is true. But who said there is a need to replace books as information sources? There are a few educational resources on cable television. But you have to pay an exorbitant amount of money to get them. They are not available with the basic cable package. For every educational channel you get with your package, you have to pay for at least ten channels that have no educational or social value at all. Yes, you can block them. But you are still paying for them. Get rid of the television and spend the cable bill money on books.
