Self-reflection: Conversations with myself

my mind and kept it. It stays in my possession and is my reminder to be thoughtful of and to say a prayer for those with a void in their lives.
These days I find myself holding the button and thinking of the parents of those children that were killed in Colorado and Pennsylvania. How the threads of their life have been pulled and that which made their lives hold together has fallen away.

Which brings me to thoughts of "what do you do when bad things happen?" Questions arise as to "why do these things happen?" There are times in our lives when we can't imagine going on without the thing that we have lost. We do not understand why this has happened.
The why can not be answered but we are reassured that in the Big Picture of life, that this was how it was suppose to be. There are many ideas as to what these losses may be designed for. Maybe it is to make us appreciate the things we do have, or to straighten up those things that need attended to, even to push us toward where we are meant to be. I've also been told that those bumps in life give you character. Some of us may think that we have built just about enough character. Still the message is that we can't understand the whys but all will be reveled to us in time.
Perhaps these significant things that happened to us in life are meant to become our passions. Often time's, inspirational speakers developed from a crisis in their life. New professions, books written, volunteer programs started, organizations formed or funding raised all have been spun from the undone buttons in someone's life. It is the old adage of when handed lemons, make lemonade, or take something bad and turn it into something good. I believe our human nature is to reach out to others. Maybe we won't rise to some elated cause or forum, but our lives can reflect what good we have pulled from our loss and pass it on to help another.
Bad things happen, buttons fall but with a little faith, we find the courage to move on. That faith can come from God who holds us in his hand, just as I held the button in my hand. When a button falls away, it can be reattached. With a few new threads and a loving hand, a replacement can be made. It will never be the same but once again things can be held together. We should remember that our lives can be like the button. It can be put back together, with the loving hand of God, although never the same, a different life will come together. And with our strong faith in tact, the new threads can be more secure, safe and will hold us tight.
