Here we go again.

The conspiracy nuts are coming out of the woodwork to tell us how Big Brother is watching again. Beware: the Black helicopters are hovering over your home waiting for you to drop a word contrary to the ruling party. Your families are going to disappear if you don't mindlessly obey. All freedoms have been swept away and all that's left is a police state. This is why President Bush planned 9/11! They want us to surrender our will and keep from thinking for ourselves. They want to implant chips in our necks to track us. Oooo...

Give me a break. The Patriot Act was not enacted to take away your precious freedoms. It was enacted to keep them safe. By giving the CIA a little more power it keeps terrorists at bay and helps to prevent incidents like the two attacks on the World Trade Center (remember that one back in '93? Probably not) and other terrorist attacks from happening. Have you heard of any terror attacks since 9/11 in the US? No. Have their been attempts? Yes. A few actually made the news, but most are kept from the media in an effort to allow ongoing investigations to continue. You want to see real Martial Law happen? Abolish the Patriot Act and just sit back and say "Hey terrorists! We don't mind if you rape us...please go ahead because we would rather be dead than safe."

So, rest easy at night knowing that the Patriot Act is giving the government the tools to track down bad people that would do harm to you and all that you hold dear. Your freedoms remain intact - mostly the freedoms to keep voting for the same two parties year after year, the freedom to keep people like Britney Spears in the headlines, and the freedom to make shows like "American Idol" and "CSI" successful.
