Talking dogs: How dogs communicate in human-like ways

My grand daughter's best friend Albert is a west terrier , 13 years old. He is a very happy dog. He loves GOING out of house every time, when somebody from the family step out of the door. In the other time if we prepare him ,that he has to stay home, he understands but he is not happy. We are ready to leave the house and Albert doesn't move from his corner looking upset,no response from him , when one of us tries to assure him that everything will be OK.

The dog communication with the human being is very complex and rewarding for both.My wife who is taking care for his feeding has a special communication. They have the time for TALKING.It is a very interesting interaction between them. She ask him if he wants something. He responds by a kind of language of barking,on different modulation of the voice.Depends on the intensity of the the barking,he indicates his desires of approval or denial.
For example,my wife ask him:DO YOU WANT THIS TREAT ? (one of three favorites treat, received as reward for good behavior). If he likes , his voice is very strong and whole body responds, moving close by her.If the treat is less tasty, the tone of barking is low and the body movement is far less expressive. Sometimes he leaves the area of interaction.

When he needs to go out of house for his needs, first he comes and looks at me , and runs to the door.If I am not able to be reach by him , he goes to the door and starts to bark in a different intonation than the other barking.

If the mailman rings the doorbell , his aggressive barking has a complete other tone,
frequency and intensity.

If the cars driven by the family's members approach the driveway,he goes to the access door from garage, waiting to " GREET" the family member.

If a strange car (gardener, pool care worker)is parking in front of the house or in driveway,he starts to bark very loudly, continue until the car is turned off and he can see the people who are coming for their job.

If my grand daughter is sick ,he is very quiet , being close by her bed and his behavior is very restraint.

It is so beautiful the interaction with our dog.You discover everyday a new way of communication. The dog is the best friend of human being. He knows and feels your emotional reactions. The love of both sides, sometimes is more true and healthy, than between two human beings.
