I always love to be alone
Among the older trees
And marvel as to how they've grown
So patiently with ease!
The years have left them unperturbed
By what prevails around them;
Their freedom yet stays undisturbed,
Nothing can astound them.
I look into their bosoms warm,
The loving care that's in them,
With nests of birds away from harm,
Sheltered free within them.
In spring when they're fully dressed
And wear their blossoms pretty,
Each bird of song must do its best
To harmonize its ditty.
What subtle hands had planted such
Time-honored trees, who knows! -
The love and sentiment and touch
That couldn't then repose,
But linger in the warm embrace
Of Nature that is there
To choose a special time and place
For such a love affair!

Comfort as the water falls
In darkened forest there
Echoes of an eagle's cry
True magic in the air
Morning mists creep softly
