How to make homemade body lotions

Basic Lotion/Cream/Body Butter Recipe

Lauroyl Sarcosinate, Methacrylate Copolymer, Hydrogenated Glyceryl Palmate, Laureth Sulfate, Butylene Glycol, Phenoxyethanol, , Panthenol, Methylparaben. This is not the stuff of a good basic natural lotion and yet people will smear this on their skin day after day, year after year.

Fortunately, more and more people are starting to question what is going on their bodies and on their children and are looking for alternatives to the chemical filled lotions, potions and petroleum based products.

It is very simple to make a cream or lotion that can be used for soothing for sore bottoms, dry skin, rashes or a chest rub for coughs and colds and is entirely natural. One word of caution; any cream or lotion made with water, no matter how small the amount, needs to have a preservative added to it to prevent harmful bacteria from growing in it or turning rancid. There is also a popular myth floating around that all you need to add is Vitamin E to prevent this from happening. However this is completely untrue.

Fortunately there is a great way to make an all purpose cream that can be as thick or as light as you water and preservative free. While it's not as lightweight as a daily moisturizer, it's almost that light and much more versatile than anything you can buy in the shop. Also, it's so easy to do, anyone can make it.

Basic butter/chest cream/nighttime moisturizer etc..

1 ounce bees wax
1 cup olive oil

Heat together (on low heat) until wax is melted and pour into your clean jars. This recipe will obviously make you a little over a cup of cream. If you want less, just cut it into half.

You can't get much more basic that that and its practically destruction proof. However from basic comes marvelous and wondrous creams for your face, your baby's bottom, your legs, elbows, heels and so much more. All it takes is a little know how, some lovely carrier oils and essential oils.

If you cut your beeswax in half, and melt 1/ounce of cocoa butter instead, you've got something lovely started. You can use fractionated coconut oil, rosehip seed oil, pumpkin seed oil, grape seed oil and so many more for different types of creams.

Pregnant belly butter

1/2 ounce beeswax
1/2 ounce cocoa butter
1/2 cup rosehip seed oil
1/2cup fractionated coconut oil

Add
9 drops helichrysum essential oil
9 drops rose essential oil

Mix together and let set. You have a luscious smelling belly butter that can help prevent stretch marks and
