Testimonies: My experiences with scooters

Scooters can be great fun- i hired one when i was holidaying in QLD earlier this year, and had an absolute blast. Very different to drive to a motorcycle though. You don't lean into corners- if you do you fall off!

The scooter i had was a yamaha- quite cool- but not as funky as the retro designs from Vespa. I wonder if the old fashioned ones are as easy to start? Twist the key and away you go! No stress, just fun.

I rode a twist and go scooter- one with no gears- so it was pretty simple to use. All the controls are fairly intuitive- twist the handlebar to go, squeeze the brakes to stop. There was a speedo on my one which was fairly accurate.

The day i rode it, the weather was fantastic- warm, sunny- perfect for cruising around on a scooter- but the black leather seat got really hot when i parked it at the beach- watch out for burns on your inner legs!

When you drive it, you have to be aware that you are smaller (and less well protected) than almost everyone else on the road- making you an easy target for soccer mums.. Play it safe- drive defensively- look behind you before you change lanes or turn at an intersection.

Cant comment on driving in the wet- but i cant imagine it would be as fun as in the sunshine... like a convertible- best left for sunny days!
