~I'M WHO I AM BECAUSE OF YOU~
By another I was given life,
But then lovingly accepted by you~
You both chose to guide me,
and see that my dreams would come true~
Your love for me began so blindly,
while I was yet in my Mother's womb~
You already had three children,
But, for me, you still found room~
The first moment that you held me,
your eyes filled with joyful tears~
From that instant on, you raised me,
and comforted all my deepest fears~
You taught me to live with morals,
and the art of unconditional love~
Through these gifts I became your child,

but, now, understand the way you cared~
You showed me an infallible God,
whose love brightly shined through you~
With your consistently perfect example,
my faith in his presence grew~
I will forever be your daughter,
but now also a mother to my own~
And everyday I pray I can guide them,
in the wonderful way I was shown~
So, in the times when you feel proud,
it's yourselves who should be praised~
If you had not become "Mom & Dad,"
I would not be who I am today~
(A tribute to my adoptive parents for raising me in the warmth and light of their love - as well as to my birth mother for having the courage to make what must have been the toughest decision of her life.)
