Making Straw Sculptures
Plentiful. Colorful. Adaptable. Affordable. Just a few reasons why drinking straws are a perfect crafting medium for kids!
What you'll need:
*Drinking straws in various colors. Bendy straws are great too!
*Plasticine, or craft dough that hardens when it dries. (Plasticine can be reused again and again. Craft dough makes your child's creation permanent.)
*Safety scissors
Optional:
Googly eyes, feathers, beads, etc...
Directions:
*Cut straws with safety scissors to desired length.
*Roll plasticine into little balls.
*Stick the straws into the plasticine, using it as the base, and joints of the sculpture.
*Glue on any finishing touches, such as eyes, with white craft glue and leave to dry.
Some Ideas to Get You Started:
*Spider: Use bendy straws to make eight little legs. Anchor into one large, round ball in the center. Don't forget eyes!
*Figures in Motion: Make a person with a large ball for the head, straws for the torso and limbs, and smaller balls for the joints. The positionable joints allow you you to make your figure, sit, run, etc...
