When shopping turns into a shopping disorder

Visa, Master card, American Express or Discover? Which credit card will you be using for the holidays? Credit! Credit! Credit! No wonder people spend like crazy, because it doesn't seem like real money!

Disorder or not? What kind of a disorder, or guidelines do the credit card companies operate under, that makes the public such an easy prey? Temptation is one thing, but to accept the fact that credit is the normal way for us to conduct our lives through, really needs to be examined!

I grew up with people that couldn't keep a penny in their pockets. However, after their money was gone, there was no other option, other than to work a little harder to replace it. Nowadays, it is acceptable for people to live beyond their means and once they over step their mark, then it is regarded as a disorder.

Like anything else in life, too much is excessive; From gambling to obesity and substance abuse to kleptomania, to name a few; All these disorders can wind up being very damaging to one's health and well being. There are treatments readily available for each of the aforementioned, shopping disorder is now a recognized problem in our society.

I suppose the next disorder will be planting too many trees? Arborholosim! Will this be a growing problem? Just kidding!

Shopping disorder, is unfortunately very common in today's society. With too many options at our finger tips, it has become easier than ever to spend and rack up our bills. "Buy now and pay later" seems to be the slogan in the United States and I think that more and more people are getting vacuumed up by the enticements that are offered from our predatorily inclined creditors.

This society seems to be willing to fix the symptom instead of approaching the root of the problem and so long as big business is involved, only a few seem to gain, at the expense of many others. This makes me wonder where the real disorder lies?

Although we must learn to exercise self control and ignore the urges of feathering our seemingly empty nests with material items, we must also learn to make do without and not keep up with the Jones's.
No matter how much we buy and no matter how much we really don't need, therein lies the problem: This is a consumer society that relies on us to spend our money, or credit, in any shape or form, in order to keep the big wheel of this country turning. From shopping to therapy and credit to bankruptcy; Either way, the Lawyers and the Therapists will get paid, so that we can live to shop another day!
