Marriage is specified in the Bible as the union of one man and one woman. "For this reason, a man will leave his father and his mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh. Gen 2:24." Marriage is a union ordained by, and sworn before, God, and God provides this union for His men and women. If the parties involved in the union are of the same sex then it is not, by definition, a marriage.
Homosexuality most often falls under sexual immorality in biblical terms. Christians, however, are not supposed to be judgmental: to each his own and all that. Let God sort it all out.
As for the day-to-day living that we must do here on Earth, however, there should be some legal union available. People that live together, as a couple, raise families together, and spend their lives together, actually have no rights in today's legal system unless they are married. Therefore, if you are in a homosexual relationship, you do not get the same tax breaks, rights and privileges of a married hetero couple. This doesn't seem fair to me, and I'm not sure why it is this way in today's world. Perhaps the lawmakers believe that they can banish the lifestyle altogether? Or perhaps it is just such a controversial issue that government is afraid to take a firm stand on it, one way or another.
