Poetry: Fallen angel

Taking the final look
Looking into the light
A warm glow
The last glance
A passing moment
For an instant of time
An eternity speeding past
A fall from the sky
A crashing thrust
Spending but an instant
Time has frozen
The drop seems forever
An eternal spiral
Deeper from greatness
Crashing down into life
Facing the world
Seeing life as it is
Or as it were
The infinite passing
The force of death
Seizing hold
A plummet through
A world destroyed
Given wings
Unable to fly
Forced to trudge upon
Mortal feet
Pacing around the world
Walking through busy roads
Millions of strangers
Glaring with contempt
At each other
At themselves
Head held low
Shoulders hunching forward
Tears in the eyes
No word of kindness
No comfort in life
In life
Impossible to live
Unable to try
From a fall of peace
To a world of war
Death could be a solace
If wings would fly
If it were possible
There is no chance
Lost to the world
Lost to life

    Oh stone angel,
    You watch over the graves,
    These men long dead,
    These wonders you know.
