There are a variety of ways in which you can find good employees for your business. Here's a few ideas on how to seperate the wheat from the chaff in an increasingly competitive employment market.
Ask The Best Employees
Logically enough, people tend to hang out with other people who are like themselves. Probably the best way of finding employees that suit your needs is by asking people who you know are doing a good job. This could either be in your company or in another company. Getting referrals from other employees is often the best way of finding the ideal candidate for the job.
Ask Downsizing Companies
If you know of a company that is laying off staff in a similar employment bracket as your own, it might be a good idea to ask them about any good members of staff that they themselves cannot afford to keep. The advantage of this method is that the staff will already be trained for the job, and the time spent adapting to the new job will be minimal.
Contact Agencies and Professional Organisations
There are a great number of companies that find work for specialized staff. Although they often charge a fee, it would be worth it if the job specification you require is specific or requires a great deal from the person doing the job. Remember, it is a lot more expensive if you employ the wrong person than it would be if you paid a professional organisation to do the work for you.
Offer Financial Incentives
Some companies offer special financial incentives for the right person. This will serve to prevent the employee looking elsewhere. After all, it is often unlikely that the ideal candidate will just be looking at one job. If you pay staff well and are civil to their requirements, they are more likely to choose you as an employer.
Use The Internet
The Internet, among other things, is also a vast pool of employment resources that is often the cheapest and most effective way of finding the right candidate. Check out the various portfolio sites available, especially if the work you require is not dependent upon geography.
Employ Freelancers
Freelancers are often paid based upon the work they actually produce. Therefore it is much more likely that the candidate will be more inclined to produce higher quality work. If the work required from the employee is specific, it may be a good idea simply to pay a freelancer to do it.
Go To Schools and Colleges
Ask local schools, colleges and universities for employees with the most potential. Most Universities and Colleges these days have special career fairs. Attending one of these may provide you with the greatest opportunity to find the employee you need for the job.
