Country single reviews: Lost in This Moment, by Big and Rich

If someone would have told me last year that Big & Rich first #1 song is a slow love song and a ballad to boot I would have laughed! These guys are famous about putting up a huge show. I was sold right from the start and am a proud owner of a tank top which states "Save A Horse Ride A Cowboy". I love their humor and fresh take on country music, how much crying over the solder over lost loved one can one take! Even if it is country music..

So these two totally rocked it up and classical would not be the way to describe their previous hits. So when the duo released this single in February 2007 from their upcoming album "Between Raising Hell and Amazing Grace" it totally took me by the surprise.

First of all Big Kenny was not singing. Let's face it he DOES have a better voice than John Rich.. And this song is not about partying or drinking Corona's and traveling to the space. Not at all! It is a syrupy slow love song totally targeted to be a wedding song.

And fans ate it up like honey buns. I for one got a little icky feel of it all, it is so slow and blaah blaah that it sounds way too calculated for me. Their high key video wearing tuxedos was too much of a copycat look from Tim McGraw hit "Live Like You Were Dying". Maybe I am not a romantic I thought I was?

But if you look closer this song was not such a surprise at all coming from John Rich! Before Big & Rich he was the bassist and even a lead singer at times to the Lonestar, yes THAT Lonestar.

John Rich is known as a song writer for his love songs. He is behind steamy McGraw-Hill duet "Like We Never Loved At All" and even appeared singing in Gretchen Wilson hit "Come To Bed". Without a doubt he is one of the most talented song writers in country music today and behind many Jason Aldean, Gretchen Wilson and even Faith Hill hits.

Here is some lyrics of this song outside the repeated verse telling something about the whole feel:

"I lift your veil and angels start singing Such a heavenly sight, yeah!" and the ending: "I smell the jasmine floating in the air like a love song Watch my words draw sweet tears from your eyes Bow our heads while the preacher talks to Jesus Please bless this brand new life, Yeah"

So you know the whole song is as sugar coated as it can get. But whatever your personal opinion of this Big & Rich hit might be it will go to history as their first #1 hit as a duet and you will be hearing it in the weddings around the globe for decades to come, I have no doubt of that!
