Tips to avoid spending too much during the holiday season

Everyone may be tempted to buy a lot of things with the arrival of festive season offers. Most people may be tempted to use the credit cards to pay and credit starts to roll over to the coming year. Planning on what to buy and making a list could help most people from running into a holiday debt.

Make a list of things to buy for all people you intend to buy. Making a list and staying to the list could help you avoid buying out of temptation. Decide well ahead what you plan to buy. Ask your children to make a Christmas wish list ahead. Once they have made the list, find how much each item would cost. Take the help of websites to find how much each item would cost. Calculate and decide how much you would spend for the entire shopping season.

Never rush to shops that offers 50-75% off sale or "Buy three to get one free". Know that mostly there will be some strings attached. Find if it really is worth buying. To know this, check the websites of all similar kind of shops to know what the real item is worth. It may also be a good idea to shop close to the holiday season.

Try to pay all items with cash. This will ensure that your purchases are within your limits. Use credit cards only if there is a valid reason. If you are planning to use one, use just one. Make it a point to pay that bill by the end of the months or with your next paycheck. Avoid rolling over the credits bills, that could make you run into debt.

Put things on hold to avoid overspending. Just choose items you would like to purchase and put those items on hold. Tell them that you will be back with your friend, spouse or children after a day or two. A day or two may be enough for you to think if all items are really necessary. It is a great way to avoid temptation purchases.

Another idea would be to open a holiday season shopping account. Make a jar and add money to your shopping jar over a couple of months. Just avoid few weekend outings and add the money to the jar. Use it for shopping and that could prevent you from excessive spending. If you think that the money in the account is not enough, add some more and use it to shop.

Follow these simple tips and enjoy shopping this Holiday Season!
