The ¼ life crisis:
Another female perspective…
With the push to get a college education, many young women go straight into university, get their B.A.s and jump head first into the professional world.
This is precisely what I did. I did not make a poor career choice - I love my work. I went straight from graduation to my first professional job (that lasted all of two months), and then moved on to a better company. I was a cherished employee, and moving up fast.
So what happened? Life… I got married, got pregnant, and had a darling little boy. I chose to leave my job in order to raise my son. Now, with him nearing his 1st birthday, I find myself re-evaluating what I want and need to do with the rest of my life.
Obviously, I want to be there for my son. I don't want a job, or even a career, to ever supersede his importance in my life. In addition, my stint in the professional world showed to me the importance - nay, the necessity - of getting a M.A. in my field.
So, now I find myself just at the ¼ life mark and starting over - my priorities had to be rearranged. Decisions had to be made. Is it a crisis? I don't think so, but that is because I'm happy with the choices I've made so far, and I think I'll be happy with the choices I make from here. I'm going back to school to get my M.A., and eventually I'll return to the professional world - as a more mature, better educated person. In the mean-time, I'm going to enjoy this time with my son.
Do I have any advice: do what feels right - never make choices because you feel you have to; go into the field you want to go into (do it for love and not for money); get your priorities in order and take breaks when you need to. NEVER REGRET!
