The Best Present I Ever Received at Work

I had been working for a company for just under a year, and the office Christmas party was coming up. We had already picked our secret Santa's and things were winding down near the end of the work week as we got ready for the office celebration.

On the day of the party the office manager was having everything catered, so when we saw the food arrive we knew any moment we would be called into the large conference room so the party can begin. The excitement peeked as we exchanged our office gifts, it is always fun when the gifts are being open and we get to see what everyone got.

Under the tree was a large box with gift bags that you could tell was most likely some sort of wine. This was my first Christmas party here so I figured it was either gifts from the company to all of us, or perhaps it was gifts for the sales people that we do business with. I was secretly hoping that our gift would be a gift certificate or cash, I still had shopping to do and every little bit helped.

The office manager asked to have our attention while she made an announcement, before we leave the office that day she said, make sure to take a bottle of wine from the box under the tree. She also said for those who do not have their paycheck yet to stop by her office to pick it up, since we were not going to be here on pay day. The boss decided to give us two days off with pay before the holiday. I knew about the time off but I was really grateful to hear that they would be paid days off, I was so worried about not getting paid for those two days, I breathed a sigh of relief.

The excitement of the day was coming to an end, most of the people had already left, and it was just I and three other office people that helped clean up after the party. We packed the leftover food up, so the office manager could give it to the cleaning people who were due in that evening. After everything was packed up and cleaned, I was reminded not to forget my gift.

I picked up one of the packages that was under the tree and headed off for the manager's office. I knocked on the door and I have to admit she was pretty jolly, I looked over at her gift bottle of wine and it was still in the bag sealed. She invited me in and poured a Baily's for both us, which explained the jolliness. We talked briefly, finally we wished each other a Merry Christmas, and she handed me my pay envelope and I left.

I got in my car, looked at the envelope and put it on top of the sun visor, the banks
