Appropriate Christmas gifts for your boss

We have all been there. Christmas is here and we have to buy something for our boss. It doesn't matter if we like him/her or not, we still have to get him/her something. There were numerous occasions that I spent endless hours thinking, looking through magazines, catalogues and even going through stores to find an appropriate gift for my boss, or bosses through-out my years of working.

What do you buy your boss? If you have a male boss it's not appropriate to buy him a cologne, or a shirt; that seems too personal. On the other hand a cologne will be a fine gift for a female boos. Of course, it all depends on how close a relationship one has with his/her boss. In most cases it is usually the woman who will look for a gift for her boss. Men seem to have a different opinion on this matter. They don't find it difficult to buy something for their boss. Unless their boss is a woman. Despite that, they appear to find it easy to buy something. At least from my experience.

I had bosses that I really liked and had no problem, whatsoever, to find a present for them. I also had bosses that I didn't like and found it difficult to buy something for them. When you don't like someone, no matter if they are your boss, you the individual, who has to buy the gift, do so half heartedly.

There are quite a few things that one can buy for their boss that would seem appropriate. Especially, if you like your boss. In this case there are plenty of items that you would like to give him/her. Some of them are nice wood or silver picture frames, that would go with his/her office decor. Another one would be a desk clock. If you are in a good relationship with your boss, for example you know his/her family and attend gatherings together, then a nice bottle of wine, or champagne, or a table top wine cooler would be appropriate. A holiday basket with different types of cheeses, crackers and wine is also appropriate; either you know his family or not. Or a basket full of cookies with different kind of teas or coffees is also good. Books are another alternative if you know what your boss likes to read. My last boss that I had, he liked to read anything that was business related. So it was easy for me to get him a book, since being his personal assistant I knew what he read or what he had bought.

There are plenty of gifts that would be appropriate for a boss. It all depends on how much you like your boss and how much you want to spend on him/her. Happy Shopping!
