Thoughts on online dating

THOUGHTS ON ONLINE DATING

With new technology came online dating. Who knew we would enter into a world where you could order a pizza, find virtually anything to buy online, sell virtually anything online, make a living online without leaving the comfort of your home to do it, socialize online and find a husband online? Computer technology has improved by leaps and bounds in the past decade alone. Where will we be by the next decade?

In my mom's time, she was basically confined to dating the guys in her neighborhood. It was a time when not all teenagers and young adults had cars. We have come a long way as a society in general. Now it is not out of the question to meet, fall in love and marry someone from the other side of the world. It happens everyday, in fact, I have a circle of friends who have made it happen.

In this time of everyone being so busy and not having time to waste on dating the traditional way, getting to know someone online is an awesome way to really know someone if both parties deal with each other with honesty and sincerity, the two optimum words.

There is what I call the perverted side of the quest for online love and friendship. It is one of the things that I hate most in the world, I feel very strongly about this and it upsets me. It is all about respect or lack of . . . the "romance" chat rooms I previously visited have become notorious as a pervert hang out and very disgusting for decent, respectable people. They weren't always like that, I met many of my closest relationships and friends, but I won't go there now.

My method of making friendship and relationship connections has shifted towards blogging and special interest groups mainly within the framework of Yahoo 360, Yahoo Groups and Yahoo Messenger.

I've made some awesome friends online and maybe I will be one of the lucky ones who can one day say that I found my soul mate online. For a woman who believes in love at first sight, fairy tales and Prince Charming, I know I have already met him online or will in the future.
