My two young granddaughters are like night and day. One is all about style and fashion, and the other is super-athletic. It is actually easier to shop for the athletic young lady, because there is such an array of gifts geared to teens who are into sports.

All one needs to do is pick up any clothing catalog or take a stroll through the mall to see what the athletic teen girl would like this year for Christmas. Designers in 2007 have been on the ball about the greatest looks for athletically inclined teen girls.

When it comes to clothing items, is difficult to narrow down the field, but basics are always appreciated. Hoodies are great and most teens love them, athletic or not. Pants to match are a plus. Tank tops and cotton T's to wear under sweatshirts are most definitely a good look and necessary to the athlete's wardrobe. An assortment of tops can be layered to create warmth and style.

Socks in vibrant colors are practical and fun but above all, they are essential for athletic teens. Look for quality that will guarantee longevity.

Sport bras are great for the older teen who needs a bit of support for athletic activities. These are available in all price ranges and found anywhere clothing is sold.

Sneakers are something that should be purchased with your teen girl along, so this can't be a surprise. If you opt for the surprise factor and the sneakers are not suitable for any reason, they can usually be returned for the pair that will work. Watch for sales, as quality sneakers are very pricey.

Caps, scarves, gloves - all of these are important for warmth outdoors and a good look for athletic gals in their teens. Stick to neutral colors so she can use them with any of her outerwear, or pick her favorite colors if you're sure about them.

Of course, anything that relates to your teen girl's favorite sport, team, or activity makes a great gift. Bedroom decor with a team logo, school sports team items, or sports and exercise equipment are all very appropriate gifts to give to the teenage girl who lives for sports. Water bottles are terrific. Watches that will withstand rugged wear are good. Sports-related jewelry is ideal - charms for bracelets or the bracelet itself with a charm for her particular sport.

There is no end to the variety of gifts that a sports-minded, athletic teen girl will appreciate, and you will be adding to her favorite Christmas memories with gifts that reflect her interests and her personality. But if all else fails and you haven't been able to decide, a gift card to Land's End, Cabellas, sporting goods store, or an outfitters supply company will also help make her Christmas bright!
