There are no hidden costs to renting a car, just the high cost of stupidity for a consumer who assumes he is going to get something for nothing or just flat out didn't read the contract he signed his or her name too, which is now a legally binding contract.

Lets look at some of those surprise hidden fees.

1: They charge you for a tank of gas because they gave you a car with a full tank of gas and you choose to return it on empty. Well, you know if you borrow your momma's car with a full tank of gas, you better return it with a full tank of gas, or else! Now, the rental contract and the customer service representative state that you should return the car with the amount of gas that they gave it to you with. If you don't, they charge you for gas. No surprise there.

2: Rental car insurance can be opted out of, if your regular car insurance insures rental cars, if not you, might want to pony up that extra cash because you are responsible for any damage to the rental car. No surprise here either. This is in the contract.

3: If they tell you to return the car on a certain day at a certain time and you don't. Well, surprise, they are going to charge you for an extra day. Why? Because you agreed to return the car and you didn't. Now, that car wasn't in the lot for them to rent to another customer, so they are out a rental fee. Not really because they are charging you for an extra day to make up for it. This is also in the contract.

And the list goes and on.

Truthfully, there are no hidden fees or surprises in alot of contracts. Just ignorant consumers that were too busy to read the contract that they were signing. Not only is this ignorant and irresponsible, you could get in alot of trouble signing something you didn't bother to read or don't understand.
