Great attractions of England

THE SKIRRID INN:

Whilst visiting this area you must take a small detour south of Hereford along the A465 towards Abergavenny. As you cross the border into Wales just off the main road in the village of Llanfihangel Crucorney lies the 'The Skirrid Inn' which is the oldest pub in Wales. This Inn dates as far back as the 11th century and is also reputably to be haunted.

The Inn is named after the mountain that looms above. It was here that 180 criminals between the 12th and 17th century were sentenced and hung. They met their grisly end at the creaky foot of the stairs from a makeshift gallows.

Some visitors that come here for the excellent accommodation, fine ales, and good food complain of lights going on and off, orbs floating in the air, and other creepy phenomenon.

So why not end your vacation with a real ale and a homecooked meal here and hear stories that many believe could be true!

FINALLY:

About 20 miles to the west of Hereford is a town that everyone interested in books must visit. Hay On Wye is half in Wales and half in England and is world famous for its many fine secondhand bookshops that specialize mainly in rare and antique writings from every author you can think of. If you have dared to stay at the Skirrid Inn there is a spectacular but very narrow mountain road starting at Hay that takes you over the Gospel pass and through the secluded Vale of Ewyas back onto A465 Hereford to Abergavenny road. But this route is not recommended during winter months due to bad weather.

If you ever plan a trip here one day whilst visiting London, why don't you hire a car and travel the scenic route along the old A40 that bypasses famous place like Oxford, The Cotswolds and Gloucester to Ross on Wye and see a corner of England just like you read in those old history books of your schooldays.
