personal possessions (if you have a house, it will go on the line at some point). There are no guarantees and no one will be there for you when you fail, except your friends and family, so what ever you do in starting your business, don't leave your family and friends behind. Also, try not to get your friends to invest or be involved in your business until you are sure it will be a success. There isn't anything that destroys a friendship or family faster than money. Money you can replace, friends and family are very hard to replace.
Courage, write down your ideas and work on the plan. Make lists, break them up into categories of things to do, read and research and learn or at least somewhat understand all the components of your business. Look critically at your technology, your plan, your team and your vision, be prepared to change it and adapt. Adaptation is the entrepreneur's salvation, be prepared to change your ideas quickly. Starting a business is the most exciting thing you will ever do and it's exciting because it's terrifying to think that you could fail. It takes courage and all the other things necessary to start your own business but if you are truly an entrepreneur, there isn't anything like it. No one will do it for you, it's up to you to start, but you will find plenty of people willing to help, just ask for it. It's a life's work and once you're hooked, it's hard to go back to the corporate and company world because it's you making a corporate or company world for your employees.
