Everyone seems to base their answer to this debate on whether or not it is acceptable in the view of society. The question would be better posed as Should Society Allow People To Have Sex Before Marriage?
Just like religion in a public school, answers to these questions only matter when they are answered incorrectly in the eyes of the "asker". If most people in your area of society believe in waiting for marriage, of course they are going to expect to be able to tally your points on their half of the scoreboard. If most people in your area are pregnant before they graduate high school (if they do, in fact, ever graduate) you are going to look like a minority, even when it was "the right thing to do". The people who argue over adding religion to everyday teaching in a public school, only get huffy and puffy when people of other religions step up to the plate for their turn to disagree. It is only when the question posed is given the answer expected, that contentment is achieved.
The answer lies in the person alone and not the eye of society. If I am ready to make this decision and I choose to do so, it is my problem. Not yours, and not the publics'. If I choose not to do so, that also is my decision.
Abstinence is a wonderful thing. If you are not ready to have sex, or have had a bad experience, abstinence may be the right choice for you. Abstinence is not the right choice for you if you are doing it because everyone else is. The same goes for sex. Trust me, I know how peer pressure can be; Just because your buddy, BFF or boyfriend are ready, doesn't mean you have to be.
Sex can be a beautiful thing- And if you are ready (or think you are), trust in the old boyscout standby- "Be Prepared". Protect yourself against the many possibilities... Sexually Transmitted Diseases and pregnancy in the least. Don't worry about what other people think or what society might say.
This is one persons decision- yours. Leave it at that.
