Despite the fact that I live with five cats and have for a very long time, I am still amazed to discover new things about them, which I do almost every day that they allow me to live in my house. I'd like to share them with you and if you have any to add, please feel free to let me know and I will make a new list.
Did you know that:
1. Tylenol and chocolate are both poisonous to cats?
2. the ancestor of all domestic cats is the African Wild Cat? It exists today but fortunately, doesn't live anywhere near your house!
3. in ancient Egypt, killing a cat was a crime punishable by death?
4. the very first cat show was held in London at the Crystal Palace in 1871?
5. there are today more than 100 distinct breeds of cats?
6. that hunting is not instinctive to cats? Kittens born to non-hunting mothers may never learn to hunt (except maybe for yarn and some old socks to play with).
7. that cats bury their feces to cover their trail from predators?
8. that in Great Britain, black cats are thought to bring good luck! (I guess they do. Otherwise they would live here in the United States where many think that they bring bad luck (which they don't).
9. that cats can't taste sweets? (That means they are all for you. Grab them while you can!)
10. that the average cat meal is equivalent to 5 mice?
11. that the large majority of white cats with blue eyes are deaf? Cats with only one blue eye will be deaf in the ear closest to the blue eye.
