Christmas 2007: Gift ideas under $100 for teen girls

If a teenage girl is receiving a gift even close to being worth $100, she's a very lucky girl! There are many, many possibilities out here if you are fortunate enough to be able to spend up to $100 on a gift, but of course, it needs to be something that will make her happy. As with any gift, you want to choose a theme that interests her.

Most teens love music and many have I-Pods, so the following music-related gifts would likely be tops with any teen girl.

- Nike SportCulture Hatphones, which is a toboggan that actually has headphones built in (around $55)
- Leather folios or covers for I-Pod or I-Pod nano (around $30 each)
- an I-Pod shuffle, if she doesn't already own an I-Pod (around $80)
- I-Blaster I-Pod alarm clock radio (around $70) - she can plug her I-Pod into this set and wake up to her favorite tunes

Is she a photography buff who already has a digital camera, but wants to do more with it? A hot gift this season is the Eye-Fi, the world's first wireless SD memory card for digital cameras. The Eye-Fi essentially makes the SD card (memory card) become a transmitter; it can use a wireless signal to send your photos to any one of 17 online photo sites including Kodak and social networking sites like Facebook. If she doesn't yet have a camera, try the Pink Sony Cybershot Digital camera, or a digital camera keychain.

If she has a favorite sports team or band, consider getting her tickets to a show or game. I say ticket(s) because you can allow her to take a friend. Make the evening complete by paying for a meal beforehand, or buying them team or band t-shirts. You can give her this gift in the form of a "certificate" or a basket.

Is she an outdoorsy kind of girl? Chaco and Keen sandals are both under $100 and very popular and VERY comfortable. You can also find jackets made by brands like North Face, Helly Hansen, or Mountain Hardware for under $100 if you look in the right places (try E-bay as well). They won't be the thickest, puffiest jackets made by those companies, but the brand and the fleece is often what's important to your teenage girl as these type of jackets are definitely in. Try rei.com and reioutlet.com, or the websites of other outdoor stores to look for items like these.

If she drives and has a car, there are several options you can consider. One is a Roadside Safety Kit. While it may not be her favorite gift, she'll be glad to have it if she ever needs it. You can create one on your own, or buy one at www.safetygirl.com. You can also put together a "driver's gift pack" for her and her car. Think carwash or gasoline gift cards, materials for her to wash her own car, seat covers or floormats, and maybe an I-Pod transmitter thrown in there to make it fun (which will transmit her I-Tunes to the radio). You can present it all in a big plastic bucket - for washing the car of course - with a big bow.

A few more ideas:
- an instant cell phone charger (around $20)
- pocket-sized digital picture viewers that attach to a keychain (to show off her friends! Around $50)
- wireless headphones for her I-Pod (around $60)
- an MP3 recording Karaoke player (around $80) or iKaraoke for I-Pods
- NIKE+ Sport Kit System for iPod - goes in the shoe!
- Stylish Digital Caller ID globe from Brookstone (around $50)

When all else fails, there is always the ubiquitous gift card, to their favorite store. And you'll never go wrong with a pre-paid $100 Visa card.
