Poetry: On poems

Rules of Poetry

The question posed is, "Poetry:
Define, explain, expound."
Are there rules or can it be
Whatever we have found?

The answers come in many forms
But mostly came in verse
As if to prove that poetry
Need not be rehearsed:

1. Meter, rhythm, language
All these must have a place
Rhyming then is optional
Like trim in frilly lace

2. The answer to the question
Is that rhyming is allowed
Yet Poets cannot be constrained
To following the crowd
So rhyme it if you want to
If you don't, then I don't care
Write it any way you want
Just so the words are there

3. A poem is expression
Of what we feel within
No rules should overshadow
Or seek to reign it in
