Why we make mistakes

Why do we make mistakes? Although there is no definitive answer, I have my own opinion on why we, as people, continuously make mistakes. The fact is, is that we are humans and we are all hopelessly flawed.

Mistakes are the stepping stones we use to learn and to grow. They teach us to have empathy for others as well as sympathy. Mistakes can help us to better ourselves or they have no impact on our daily lives at all. In one simple sentence, mistakes are part of human nature.

Mistakes, however, are also a matter of personal interpretation. A man who shoots another man in self defense does not see it as a mistake, he sees it as survival. The man, who is shot on the other hand, probably finds his actions to be a mistake. He won't be doing THAT again, at least we hope not.

Whatever the situation or whatever the mistake, we are all destined to make more then one in our lifetime and if we can't learn or grow from them, then we are all destined, not for failure, but to only make even more mistakes and with more mistakes comes regret. Regret is probably the most common emotion a person feels after making a mistake. Without regret, we wouldn't learn from our mistakes and that would totally defeat the purpose of making mistakes to begin with.

Why do we make mistakes you ask? The answer is simple, because it's part of being who we are. We are human and nobody is perfect. So when you make a mistake (and trust me, you will make mistakes), don't be too hard on yourself. Learn from it, grow from it and move on. Believe me when I say it will make you a better person.
