due to a kick from an ostrich caused a relapse into drugs again.

In the nineties Cash saw his career making a comeback thanks to a younger generation discovering his music. In 1994 Cash performed at the famous Glastonbury Festival in Scotland - the land of his ancestors. That year was also saw the release of the first album in what became his American Recordings series. When Cash had double bypass surgery in 1998 he refused any drugs for fear of another relapse.

Only four months after the death of his wife June, Johnny Cash died at the age of 71.

Johnny Cash left us with a great deal of music. During his career he collected 18 gold albums, eleven platinum albums, and six multi platinum albums. He also wrote an autobiography that sold over one million copies. For three season during the seventies Johnny Cash had his own television show which was opened by the Statler Brothers. Among the guests that appeared on the show are: Neil Young, Louis Armstrong, James Taylor Bob Dylan and Kris Kristofferson. He hosted Christmas specials and appeared in episodes of Columbo and Little House on the Prairie. Cash appeared in the mini series North and South. He also had his own episode of Storytellers sponsored by VH1.

This son of a cotton farmer was one of seven children; a simple man who left us with nearly 50 years of music.
