Electricity is a part of our regular expenses which is unavoidable. If not for using electricity we would have to go back to the time where people would have to use fire and sun as a source of energy.
Nowadays the sun can be used as a kind of alternative energy but for the most part, a life without electricity is impossible because many applications won't work without this kind of energy.
Television, computer, deep fryers, lamps and so many other things need electricity to function.
Saving on your electricity bill is possible if you pay attention to the manner you use electricity and pay attention to potential wasteful energy. Cutting back on waste is often easier than you can imagine and all it takes is a few minor changes in everyday habits. Although sometimes a major changes can help you save money in the long run, such as replacing some electrical appliances with alternative ones which consume less electricity.
HEATING AND COOLING
Your heating and cooling system is often the most important factor in your electricity bill. Look carefully to ensure your doors and windows are tight and sealed otherwise you will lose heat. In case of problems you can add some weather stripping to help fill the spaces.
Check to see your thermostat works correctly otherwise replacement is necessary. Additionally it's a good idea to select a temperature which is enjoyable but not too high. Better a few degrees lower for a good ventilation in your house.
WATER
It is also important to check your filters and clean or replace them once in a month.
Leaks can cost you a lot of money. Check regularly to see if there are leaks and repair any you find. It is useful to make use of a specialized company for detecting if there are no leaks and do the necessary maintenance of your heating and cool system.
Lowering the temperature of your water heater can save you a lot of money.
Do you realize how many times each day you use hot water? Almost 15% of our home electricity use goes to heating water. Decrease the temperature until the lowest you feel comfortable with. Did you know that you can save 1% of the costs for every degree that you lower the temperature? It is recommended to use a temperature of 120 degrees Fahrenheit (49 degrees Celsius) or less. Take advantage of "off peaked rates" of your electric company to use your water heater and some other appliances.
