How to decorate a dining room on a budget

by Lyndon W

Created on: December 02, 2007

Food is my life, and I never fail to look forward to another meal in the dining room. The rendezvous point for the family unit at the end of a hard day's of work, for friends and relatives to gather during a visit, it is the heart of where we sit down, share meals, entertain and talk to one another.

However, the same look for years could turn out to be rather stale and stuffy. That is where decoration essentials now comes into play. A budget does not equals to "cutting back and doing without". A more in-depth understanding would be to maximize your utility within the limits of your financial constraints.

Let the dining room be your stage-set, and you as a director to dictate on what goes on in 'Project Decoration'.

1.) Floor Plan:-

The first step to starting is to know what you have on hand. A piece of paper and pen is what you need. Take note of the dimensions of the room and the items in it. Sketch out the layout that you desire, and throw in ideas for consideration. Your best bet would be to consider a rearrangement to the movable fixtures in the dining room. It is simple and cost-free, while refreshes and changes the personality at the same time.

Since the dining room is everyone's space in the family, do not forget to seek opinions and suggestions from the rest of the other members. Get together, and spent some family time to spruce things up!

2.) Paint:-

If your walls are still a boring hue of white, or that wallpaper of yours are dangerously pealing out, it is time for a fresh coat of paint. It is inexpensive, and since it is a DIY (do-it-yourself) effort, you can indulge in a bit of creativity in dabbling some designs here and there. It is advised to look through paint catalogs and compare with the colors of the furniture, floor tiles etc in your house to make sure that they blend into the picture. Nothing is more antagonizing than to discover a misfit after finishing and moving back everything.

Use stencils and stamps to assist you if required. Wallpapers are a good bet too if you are lazy to bum around in paint. If you hunt hard enough around home centers, there are cheap rolls yet sill nice designs to lay your hands on.

3.) Changes and Installations:-

Dining table. If you have not gotten a tablecloth yet, how about getting one to add colors to your meals? Faded, stained or even torn tablecloth are a no-no. Replace them for a new look. They are useful in hiding ugly surfaces as well. My family uses transparent plastic in place of tablecloth, and this is where
