The good thing about teenage girls and what they like is that you can get popular and stylish items relatively inexpensively. For your typical teenage girl, this means accessories. Accessories are less expensive than clothes, in general, and are in abundance at the mall and other stores.
You can start with bath products. Bath & Body Works, the Body Shop, and others carry lines of great-smelling lotions, sprays, perfumes, and makeup, if she is old enough. So go in and start smelling and pick out what you think she will like. Ask a store clerk if you are unsure.
There is plenty of inexpensive, funky jewelry to be bought. Check out a Claire's or an Aldo to make sure you are buying fashionable teenage jewelry. Again, you can ask a clerk if you need help. Make sure she has pierced ears if you are buying earrings, but other than that pretty much anything in these stores are a given. Sunglasses, headbands, lip glosses, necklaces... those stores carry fashionable lines.
Another idea is a giftcard to a "quick" eating place, like Panera Bread, Dunkin Donuts, Starbucks, or a pizza place. These tend to be teen hangouts, and the more they don't have to spend their money, the happier they are.
Do they have a favorite college team? Try logo-ed sweatshirts, tshirts, flipflops, fleece blankets, or socks.
Another idea is a $25 Visa Giftcard - I have received these, and trust me, they are much appreciated!
