Friends and family who have a teen athlete on their shopping list this year may be racking their brains for gift ideas. If you're looking for something beyond the usual sports equipment or jersey, check out these gift ideas.

Your sports lover may enjoy branching out into a sport she has yet to try. Consider getting a soccer player some ice skates, or tennis lessons for you avid golfer. Chances are, she has plenty of equipment for her signature sport, something new will be refreshing.

Another great gift is tickets to a sporting event. If possible check to make sure her schedule is clear the day of the game. If pro teams are sold out or not available in your area, consider tickets to a local semi-pro team.

Subscriptions to magazines are good gifts as well. There are magazines dedicated to every sport out there, but if you don't see one you like play it safe with Sports Illustrated. Women's Health or Women's Fitness are good choices too, but may be too mature for young teens.

Your female athlete likely suffers from occasional aches and pains. A gift certificate for a massage may be just the gift she is looking for. Similarly, a foot bath or battery powered back massager might provide some much needed relief for strained muscles.

If these gifts aren't your style, pick up a few pieces of her favorite team's paraphernalia and create a team gift basket. Find a bracelet in her teams' colors, or a charm of her jersey number. Maybe she would like a heart rate monitor for her work-outs. Whatever you choose, your sporty girl will appreciate the thought you put into her gift this year.
