Poetry: Life's journey

A Dreamer's Journey

Over snowy sand dunes
You cross with winged arms
And reflections come about
Mirrored by green horizon

Far off a swimming jackal cries
Swimming through purple blood
A new taste to stale bread
The extension of your head

You turn to see a new entrance
A stone gate, for an ancient debate
A new character written by fate
Do you simply drift by chance?

You enter only to the dark
That jackal now eating the lark
The morning might just come
But your only advantage is your thumb

Deeper you go for lack of direction
You draw away, but can't avoid infection
You see the drawings on the wall
But only by soot covered torch

The shadows dance and laugh
You don't see the gate anymore
Long gone is your chance to leave
Now you go by the sound of the brook

On and on the tunnel stretches
You're lost and have lost yourself
You hear creek the only thing you have
The rest forever but anon

You claw your way now along
Starved of drink and song
All the whispers play to a melody
But the beat was gone long ago

You find the river bank finally
The trees finally stop
One last cry the jackal at best
The divide is closed and you truly rest
