Why I hate the office Christmas party

Truth be told I always loved the company Christmas parties but there were certain elements about them that I did not like.

I have never liked and will never like that people gossip at the company Christmas parties. I don't like it when they stand around and criticize someone on the other side of the room. Everyone is there to have a good time. People don't go to Christmas parties for people to say mean things about them.

Also at Christmas parties there are always people who get drunk. These drunk people always tend to ruin things for everyone, not to mention they are making fools of themselves. I am not talking about those that drink a little to much and tend to talk a little to much or giggle a little to much. I am talking about the one person that ends up knocking stuff off of tables, or throwing up in the bathroom. The kind of drunk person that needs to be assisted all night long in order to keep from hurting themselves, someone else or destroying property. Unfortunately for a couple of other people they will have to spend a night that is meant for fun babysitting this person. I have been such a babysitter and it really ruined my evening.

One really bad thing that a company can do to upset employees is to have employee only Christmas parties. Parties where spouses can not attend. This shows the employee that the company is not interested in them personally and is not interested in their family life, and that they are also cheap. Not to mention that these kind of Christmas parties are usually just thrown out of obligation. My husband used to work for a company where spouses were not invited to the Christmas party, he never went.

Company Christmas parties can be a lot of fun as long as everyone keeps the drinking under control, and behaves their selves.
