out of control. His problem with alcoholism and other drugs began to get in the way of his music. He was fired from the Grand Old Opry in 1952, and shortly after, The Drifting Cowboys band went their separate ways. At this time, most people believe that Hank hit "rock bottom", and he set out to try and prove that he could stay sober and be the performer everyone knew he was. However, on Jan 1, 1953, it would prove to be too late. Hank hired a chauffeur to drive him to a show in Canton, OH. Just before leaving, he injected himself with B12 and morphine. During the night the chauffeur pulled the car over to find that Hank was not responding. It was later confirmed that Hank was dead at the age of 29.
Hank Williams' final single was "I'll Never Get Out of This World Alive". His music portrayed the life he lived. He had upbeat hits such as "Hey Good Lookin'", and then he also had many sorrowful, sad songs that revealed the downside to his choices. "Moanin' the Blues", "Cold, Cold Heart", and "Take These Chains From My Heart" are all such examples. He had many remorseful and spiritual songs as well, such as "I Saw The Light" and "Calling You". Hank sang with his heart and captured the hearts of all his fans. His life on this earth was short, and his career was even shorter, but the impact he left on country music is one that will live on forever.
