Being a punk rock lover myself I can easily shop for my friends that also like this genre. There are many types of punk rock so you may have to know what kind that someone of yours listens to. The best known forms of punk are: new wave, hardcore, and pop.

New wave punk is a mainstream type of punk in which it grew in popularity with the emergence of MTV. Talking Heads, Blondie, Devo, and The Police are more instrumental with dance oriented music. Elvis Costello and Depeche Mode are also part of the new wave punk music scene. And probably the most popular band and safest choice for a gift is a CD by Duran Duran.

Hardcore punk is a good choice for the guy or girl that loves all out punk. This type of punk incorporates fast, aggressive beats and politically aware lyrics. The Circle Jerks and Dead Kennedys are very popular of their anti-government lyrics. My personal favorite is Black Flag which was one of the first bands in this genre. These bands are bands are popular for their middle-class and ordinary American type values.

Pop-punk is my personal favorite of all the types. This genre has been criticized for being weak and mainstream. The best choice as a CD from this genre is one from The Ramones or Sum 41. A CD from NOFX, Green Day, or Blink 182 will also be a great choice as a present. These bands have more of a pop sound than hardcore punk.
