Sports and fashion may seem like two clashing ideas, but when it comes to teenagers, trust me, both are "in". When you combine the two, even better. I was a high school soccer player, turned runner in college, who is now a YMCA gym "rat", so I have seen the athletic fashions come and go.
For teenage girls, image and brand mean a lot. Even if they are more costly, most teenage girls will not be inclined to wear off-brand (think discount store) athletic wear. "In" brands include Under Armor, Nike, & Adidas. Sweatshirts with any of these logos will work, as will tshirts or socks. These are the easiest to size as girls can be picky when it comes to the fit of shorts, workout gear, and shoes. Note: Pink is a huge color for girls athetics right now, because it combines that girlishness with sportiness. Baby blue is a close runner up.
College logos and teams are popular, so if she has a favorite, anything adorned with the college sports (such as "UNC Basketball") logo. Think hoodie, stadium or fleece blanket, etc.
The college image is cool because they haven't quite reached that age, but it's 'in' with peers.
Crocs sandals are another great idea, if she doesn't already own them.
I-Pods of course are in, so why not an I-Tunes gift certificate? This can also help keep her out of trouble if she's ever tried to illegally download music! On the same vein - I-Pod accessories, including I-skin (protects the I-Pod), a dock/speakers that they can play it out loud, or the wires that will hook the I-Pod up to the car stereo.
If your teen girl is in to their local college or pro team, sports tickets to an event are another idea... but the kicker is to give her two (or three), so she can go with her friends!
