Money-saving tips: How to lower your electric bill

The increase in electrical costs are causing some to get a large bill each month in spite of what they consider to be their best efforts at reducing it. Could it be that they aren't doing all they could be doing and don't even realize it? It is actually possible to lower the electric bill anywhere from ten dollars to a hundred dollars per month anytime of the year. Getting a light bill that's less than $100 may seem like a dream but it can be a pleasant reality with a little effort or lack of whichever the case may be.

Begin by paying close attention to when and how you have been using your electricity. Start by collecting a few months worth of light bills and looking at the total for each month. This will help you to see how much you average in utilities each month. Then realize that there are some simple things that you can do to reduce this bill up to as much as one hundred dollars a month. When you have all the bills you will be able to figure out how much you save when you begin to practice stricter conservation techniques as well.

With the Christmas season fast approaching there are extra lights everywhere. Really want to save on your light bill take the children to see someone else's lights. Kids not going for it? It's o.k. you can have lights at home but there are some things you can do to keep from increasing the power bill during this time of year.

The Christmas tree is all lit up. Only turn the lights on for a few hours a day and make sure to plug them into a surge protector. Limiting the number of lights you put up will help as well. Just because it's Christmas there isn't any reason for the yard to look like a runway.

First take a look at your appliances and look for the energy star label when replacing them. The energy star label is just that. It will save you energy and that will save you money. Consider this when replacing older and worn out appliances. Make sure the seals on things like the refridgerator and freezer are still in proper working order. If the seals are leaky the power bill will go up, so make sure to replace worn out seals to prevent paying too much in electrical costs.

Your freezer and refrigerator have energy saving settings. Utilize them. Make sure that you are not over packing your refrigerator or your freezer. Having these over full will cause them to have to work harder to maintain the food in them.

Things like your television, VCR and DVD players use electricity even when they are turned off. You can plug these items
