Drama: Facing death

Satan's General
So, this is how it ends huh Joe? I've been waiting patiently for eighty years. That's quite a while isn't it Joe? You were dealt a pretty bad hand weren't you? I don't sense any fear from you. Do you know who I am? Do you know why I'm here? Let me tell you.
You see, Joe, People like yourself are in short supply. Since the beginning of time there has only been a hand full of humans with a heart and soul as black as yours. I've been watching you from the very beginning. I watched you get drafted into the military when you were eighteen. Do you remember boot camp? The sergeant seemed to hate you; he made sure your first six weeks in the armed forces were the worst of your life. I sent him there to train you Joe, not necessarily to fight the Germans but to harden your heart in preparation to lead my army. You thought the war was over in 1945, well, your war is just about to start. Humans never see the real war until they die. You and your human kin have never seen real battle. Wars here, in this world, are to train people such as yourself to fight the eternal battle when you die. It isn't until after death that you are drafted into the league of warriors that bind together in the brimstone and fire to overthrow the powers that be. Joe, I watched you read the bible when you were young. Joe, you didn't choose hell, hell chose you. I personally chose you to be a general in my army. I know that you will lead the demon forces to victory. You've always won.

When you were fighting in France, in the glider infantry, that morning your battalion was cut loose from the airplane and the Nazis were gunning down your comrades while they were still in the air. You never prayed, you never looked back, you never stopped returning fire. Your soul turned black that morning. Hitler's soul wasn't as dark as yours. When you came down, upside down in the middle of that field watching soldiers being ripped apart by fence posts that had been driven into the ground you never once blinked. You tore through that field killing every man that stood in your way. Out of the five hundred and eighty-six men dropped from planes that morning, you were one of sixty-nine that survived. You were the only survivor of those who stayed on course. Joe, you have no heart.
You hate God; you blame him for the pain in your life. Now is the time to extract your revenge on the one who created you. Now is the time to turn the tables of good and evil and put us back on top where we belong. You can do it Joe; all you have to do is close your eyes and set your soul free. Are you ready Joe?

As Joe closed his eyes that morning in the nursing home he had a choice to make. The ground shook as the sky darkened and Joe's soul departed his body.
