Poetry: Religious

How can a soul as mist reside
Within us all yet still can hide
From probing senses intercourse
That mystical compelling force
That motivates our earthly lives
Where fact and fantasy collide
When death's cold fingers clutch our heart
And squeeze the life within, without
The flesh returnees to earth's embrace
The soul to search a new birthplace
And find that place in time and space
Where God's hand molds the human race
And adds a soul to worthless dust
That settles deep within the gut
Immortal souls seek mortal hosts
And retain the essence of our ghosts
Then in our human form reside
To animate our earthly ride
And give us hope, not fear of death
For when our earthly form must rest
The soul will live and live again
And settle deep within the gut
