Poetry: Speed of life

by Jennifer Vose

Created on: November 29, 2007

You cried, we smiled.
You smiled, we wept.
You rolled, we laughed.
You sat, you slept.

The days go by so fast, my child,
And time is fleeing as you grow.
Yesterday is but a memory now
And tomorrow comes before we know.

You crept and crawled,
We child-proofed.
You ate real food,
We took picture-proof.

The days go by so fast, again
It seems like only yesterday.
Can it be you've grown again?
Tomorrow you'll be on your way.

You walked and ran,
We bandaged your knees.
You went off to school,
We gazed in disbelief.
You learned to spell,
We helped you read.
You played little league,
From the bleachers we cheered.
You graduated, you studied,
We bragged to our friends.
You married, you moved out,
We see you now and then.
And now you have children,
Our very special joys
One little girl,
And two little boys.

They cry and we smile,
They smile and we weep.
Tomorrow they'll roll,
And someday you'll sleep.

Remember that time will go by so quickly,
Remember this moment has no way to last
Except in your heart, except in your mind
You can live for tomorrow and rejoice in the past.
