Encouraging and setting the right example for your children is key for them to eat and live a healthy lifestyle but of course it is almost the hardest thing to do. There will be highs and lows and no one is perfect. Just keep in mind that you will be successful if you are persistent but not all of the time. Make sure that you educate your children about food, and begin when they are really young. Explain what foods are good for them and why. If you have a four year old asking if ehat their eating has protein in it or calcium then you know you are on the right track.
Teens love to snack it goes hand in hand for their busy on the go lifestyle. So encourage them to eat healthy by stocking the kitchen with healthy snacks, as opposed to calorie-laden "treats." Anther way to encourage healthy eating habits is too cook often. If there is hot delicious food that is convenient for your teen them they are far less tempted to want to hit the fast food restaurants. If your teen has some free time invite them into the kitchen with you and get some bonding time in. The meal will be far more special and enjoyable if you create it together.
When the weight issue pops up please be sensitive and handle it with care. Make sure that you discuss it compassionately, never mention it or draw attention to it in front of family or friends. This is really discouraging to them and will cause the UN healthy eating habits to spiral farther out of control. Capture your kids interest with an activity. Search until you find an activity that interest them if baseball isn't working try volleyball. Just find an activity that will encourage them to be active and that will allow them to have fun while they are doing it.
