To vote or not to vote....Yes young man that is the question. I don't need an angry republican or soft spoken democrat to debate this topic with because I am busy disagreeing with my self.
Self, I think voting should be mandatory. I can spout out reasons such as our fore fathers died for that right and as Americans we are obligated. But are we? The fact is voting is the single most important obligation that we have to our country. We put the mayor, the governor, the senator and not to mention the big man in the White House in charge. But self, some people are just not that bright. You have the closet racist , the sheltered teen , millions of uneducated , the disgruntled old guy , the poor , the rich , the weak and the strong who all would be voting because the had to.
Should an over zealous person who only believes Jesus and him alone is the gateway to happiness have a vote? Should the racist old guy who is stuck in his ways decide who should represent our country? Should a homeless person who blames everyone but there self disregard a potential candidate because if elected his welfare check will take a cut? Should a 21 year old who gets his political knowledge from flicking threw channels after a puff of marijuana decide who governs my state? Should an African American senator get a vote from an African American because of skin tone alone? Should a female Senator not get a vote because of gender? Should a rich out of touch Caucasian Governor receive votes because he seems like someone who would be fun to have a beer with? Should any politician receive a single vote without that person voting knowing what he or she represents? Of course not!
If you believe that mandatory voting would force people to become more involved in the political process then you should be for it. If you are realistic like me, you do not.
