foods- lots of fruits and vegetables, a variety of whole grains , nuts, seeds and legumes and on the non-vegetarian side occasionally lean meat and dairy products should all be used to create a balanced diet.

It's important to live on a day to day basis rather than projecting too much into the future, just for a while until the depression passes. Subconsciously you don't know that you are thinking too much into the future, but taking conscious hold of your mind and making the effort to live each day as they come will do wonders for your happiness.
2. Go out for a walk when the sadness kicks in. Staying inside makes it worse. Fresh air, as cold as it may be does wonders for the mood. Take a long walk, empty your mind and relax.
3. Exercise: one hour workouts at least three times a week, improves mood and releases all those happy endorphins. Physical and mental health after all go together. Nobody knows that better than depression afflicted folks. It also makes you feel good about yourself and helps with boosting self-esteem. And we know that we need that!
4.Friends and family: Having them around to have light conversation with over a cup of decaffeinated tea or juice helps to beat those threatening dark clouds.

Remember though, just give yourself time. Chip away at it, and eventually life's going to start taking shape once again.
