All parents should be able to choose where to send their children to school. Unfortunatly, this isn't the case. Wealthy, well educated politicians send their children to the best schools our money can buy, yet they refuse to extend that right to individuals.
I believe that if there was a voucher system, it would force the worst rated schools to bring their staff up to a higher level or be forced to close. Many school systems across the country have been teaching to tests, rather than to encourage excitement for learning.
Gone are the days when a world traveler turned history teacher can put down his book and spend a class telling of his travels. The teachers are on a rigid schedule dictated by testing whether in their grade or preparing for the next. No matter what the student's scores are, they are missing out on a well rounded education.
Private school teachers have a freedom in the fact that they are not required to give these standardized tests. They are free to teach things that perhaps are only touched on in the school books and spend a class talking about life in Chile or Antarctica.
Every parent should have a right to choose where to send their children to school. Education is one of the most important things in a child's life. The school they attend can and does make a difference in how they succeed later in life.
