Oprah ogles Obama: Stars use their media power to back presidential candidates

"Don't expect to build up the weak by pulling down the strong," Calvin Coolidge so wisely stated. The real issue here is not the decision a celebrity makes to openly support a Presidential candidate. It is what the celebrity has that politicians have lost; the public's trust. The old saying is never mix religion with politics. It is not never mix fame with politics. Oprah is an American icon. Her opinion is held in high regard. She has become apart of many Americans daily lives. Politicians, on the other hand, are mistrusted and distant. Many average, hardworking American citizen's trust the opinion of a known voice, as opposed to that of a stranger's political dialect. "The presidency is not a popularity contest," Al Gore declared. Let us remember that.

Political campaign's have become nothing more than a media circus and a showdown between candidates. I am not interested in listening to the candidates try to outdo each other in some answer the question contest. The media and mainstream public seem more interested in tearing down and discrediting candidates they don't favor, rather than supporting the one they do. My hat's off to Oprah and other celebrities for having the courage to take a stand. Oprah has definitely been in the public eye long enough to know the risk she is taking. Being a celebrity does not take away their rights as an American citizen. The Constitution and Declaration of Independence still apply to them. So those who are calling Oprah immoral for standing up for what she believes in should take a moral inventory of themselves. Isn't that what Democracy is all about? Is there a law that says a popular person who has the financial ability to support a Presidential candidate they personally believe in, should not do so? Is the fact that it may sway public favor greatly in the direction of that candidate a crime? I should think not.
The people who are complaining should stop wasting time whining and put that negative energy into positive action by taking a stand for who they believe in. Slander and gossip have become a way of life in this country. Instead of focusing on the reasons why a person should become President, they spend their time and energy discrediting the competition. What kind of message is this sending to others about us as a nation? Have we quit learning from those great Presidents who came before us that left an honorable impression in the hearts of the people? Truth never changes. "Little progress can be made by merely attempting to repress what is evil. Our great hope lies in developing what is good, " words of wisdom from President Calvin Coolidge.
Our country is in need of a President such as we have not seen since the time of our forefathers. Let's prove that they developed a government to serve the people, created by the people, for a nation that would uphold their achievements. Times change; liberty, truth, and justice do not.
To those who are satisfied to sit back and let others worry about government, Calvin Coolidge said so long ago, "Those who trust to chance must abide by the results of chance." It is unconstitutional to criticize and belittle celebrities for taking a stand. Truth is always simple and direct. Every vote counts. Ask Al Gore if you don't believe it! Oprah has only one vote, don't criticize her for making it.
