Melatonin is a hormone produced naturally in the pineal gland at the base of the brain. Not every body produces this hormone, although most people do. Those that don't produce melatonin find it hard to sleep. To help these people fall asleep there is the supplement, melatonin. It provides more melatonin for the brain to use.

Why use melatonin when you can get other over the counter drugs like Tylenol P:M? The answer is simple. Melatonin is better, cheaper, and safer. But there are protocols that must be carried out before it can work to its best.

Since melatonin is just as good as most sleeping drugs and natural, it is the better choice. The over the counter drugs aren't as effective as the natural melatonin supplement and it does less harm to your internal organs for that reason.

Melatonin is a safer drug than the prescription drugs due to the fact that you can't get hooked as easily. By contrast, despite their claims, prescription sleeping drugs are going to get you hooked many times more easily than melatonin.

This proves that melatonin is better, cheaper, and safer.

But there is a catch. You have to do certain things to notice a difference.

*Establish a regular bedtime routine
*Avoid exercise within 1 hour before bed
*Use relaxation techniques or meditation before sleep.
*Do not drink caffeine after 3 pm.
*Stay away from alcohol within 1 hour before bed.
*Try not to read a lot before bedtime.
*Take melatonin at the same time every day, 30 minutes before bedtime.

If you take these precautions you shouldn't have a problem sleeping, and melatonin will be your best friend.
